Cruising on the Norwegian Epic

I fell in love with the Norwegian Epic on a trip around the Mediterranean sailing out of Barcelona. Since then I have done the same trip two more times, as well as a two week transatlantic from Barcelona over to Miami which is where I flew home from. I am fortunate enough to have travelled to a fair amount of places, and even tried a few different cruise lines and ships, however the Epic is by far my favourite and I’ve had some of my most enjoyable holidays onboard.

I love the fact that she has the highest number of Studio Cabins across the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet. These are cabins designed for people travelling on their own, and which have access to a communal lounge in order to allow the solo travellers to meet others and join them for dinner or activities if they wish. I have made some wonderful friends this way, many of whom I am still in contact with today.

For me, the layout of the Epic is perfect. I like the other ships I’ve sailed on, including other NCL ones, but they just don’t compare. The adults only pool area at the back on the top deck just feels different to other ships. The flow of the indoor areas just works better for me too – I love it.

One of my most favourite things is the waterslide called “The Epic Plunge”. A lot of water slides at sea tend to be tubes however the Plunge is one where you go down on a rubber ring, and go round and round in a bowl before popping out the bottom. I wear contact lenses so I don’t like slides where you end up under the water but going on this slide is one of my favourite things to do onboard.

One of my other favourite things about NCL is the fact that there is no set dinner times. You can choose to book a table, either at one of the sit down or specialty restaurants, but you can also go to the buffet or O’Sheehans pub at any time. The strictest dress code is in some of the specialty restaurants, followed by some of the main seated restaurants, however they are not “formal” as some cruise lines dictate. It is much more informal, but you can dress up if that is your kind of thing.

I also love the activities – from trivia, to Bingo, to gameshows with the passengers, you can never be board, and will be entertained by them, or even the shows in the theatre and lounges. I dare you to try and be bored – because you won’t be able to be!

Even if you want to just sit quiet and watch the world go by, Epic will give you an Epic holiday!
